"I think a lot of my work has to do with the elimination of the superfluous, using an economy of means, which transmutes the seen actuality into abstract universal, so that lines embodying the rhythmic flow of water, refer to all water, to all experience of water, contained within the specific event and also imply organic parallels with other natural forms.  For instance, the human circulatory system, the veins in a leaf, the grain of a tree trunk, cloud patterns in the sky, the rhythmic markings on a shell." ~ Barbara Howard
